My sister's term for the day, Compressed earth block
Compressed Earth Block often referred to simply as CEB, are a type of manufactured construction material formed in a mechanical press that forms an appropriate mix of dirt, non-expansive clay, and an aggregate into a compressed block.
My sister and her husband are building their own house and the foundation of said house is CEB.
Its like rammed earth, but with a smaller sized block instead of a whole wall section being compressed at one time. You can see rammed earth at the SC Botanical Garden - one of the natural art exhibits is the terraced hill in front of the southern living home, it looks like it is covered with flower petals of compressed dirt - those are rammed earth. Its another awesome use of this type of material.
