What if you were homeless, friendless, and only had $25 and the clothes on your back. Could you get an apartment, a vehicle, and $5,000 in the bank in less than a year? Adam Shepard, a college graduate and native of Raleigh, spent 10 months in Charleston South Carolina proving that it's not that hard to survive (and thrive) in America.

This is intriguing to me because I remember reading some of Ehrenreich's stuff and thinking that it was unfathomably stupid.

Yes, I remember reading that post -- holy shit two years ago. I should have referenced it. Thanks for reminding me.

There's also a 2005 documentary film called Reveral of Fortune that basically gives a homeless man $100,000 via a trash can. It doesn't really end well for him.
