Cut to the chase

Posted 2 years ago by Evan Tishuk

Earlier this afternoon, Tom sent me a link to eachman.com. It's a decent (if somewhat cluttered) design, but what I liked best was the quick blog and author profile at the top of the page:

Designation: personal site. Established: 1999. Location: Amsterdam. Profession: Editor. Age: 40+. Personality: INFP.Date: May 8, 2006

I think all personal blogs should carve out some room for that essential information. The Myers-Briggs "INFP" is an especially cool touch (I'm an ENTP if anyone cares). So if you're getting ready to redesign your personal blog, why not just list these basic facts plus something idiosynchratic. It's faster to read, easier to write, unobtrusive and cuts to the chase.

I like that idea. I basically lifted your exact idea and put it on my site.

I think the main reason for my rather brief biography is the fact that after a decade of working online and writing leads for the company website, I have forgotten how to write anything longer than a paragraph. Thanks, though. I do wish I, and my site, weren't as cluttered!

Caroline: Thanks for stopping by. You need to have a blog where the content column is so skinny you can't write more than a paragraph ;) I have to ask though, where did you get that woodcut artwork (at least it looks like a woodcut or something)?

The image is part of a scan I found online, it's from the Everyman text.

I like my "colophon" tab, dammit. :-)

Jeremy: But your blog isn't a 100% "personal" blog, so I'll let it slide this time.
