Carbon footprint of eating local

There are a lot of good reasons to eat local, reducing your carbon footprint seems to be low on that list.

Reducing my carbon footprint by riding my bicycle more... but old ladies in giant sedans keep trying to assassinate me. At least, in Europe, old ladies drive Twingos and eurocars. Note to car dealerships: Please stop selling American sedans to old folks. They can't handle cars that large.

Is driving to my local Starbucks rather than going to the one downtown a good way to reduce my carbon footprint?

By the way, all this math just to post a comment is making my head hurt. I might have to go back to wearing my calculator watch.
